Rules and Regulations

In early May, all calves will be delivered to the UI Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension & Education Center (NMCREEC), where the ICA will assume ownership and arrange all pickup and delivery logistics.

• Upon arrival, calves will receive vaccinations (8-way clostridial and 5-way MLV), deworming, implanting, and ear tagging, with all supplies provided by the ICA and its partners.

• Calves will be weighed upon arrival and again on two consecutive days to establish their on-test weight, which will be monitored monthly to track health and weight gain.

• They will be fed alfalfa/grass hay and grazed on irrigated grass/legume pastures managed with intensive grazing methods.

• Health will be monitored daily, with treatment as needed for conditions like foot rot or pneumonia.

• Calves will be shipped out within seven days of the futurity's conclusion, with ICA handling the pickup and payment for market shipment, while NMCREEC will assist with loading and brand inspection.
