IDAHO PUBLIC LANDS COUNCIL
Grazing is good.
The Idaho Public Lands Council (IPLC) is dedicated to protecting the continued livestock grazing use on Idaho's federal and state lands. IPLC exists under the umbrella of the Idaho Cattle Association and the Idaho Woolgrower's Association.
IPLC is an affiliate of the Public Lands Council (PLC) in Washington D.C. PLC is the only organization in D.C. whose sole purpose is to defend and promote livestock grazing. Together, IPLC and PLC advocate for western ranchers who preserve our nation's natural resources while providing vital food and fiber to the nation, and the world.
Advocating.
IPLC advocates for key issues that affect Idaho livestock producers and their livelihoods. Wildfires, sage grouse plans, and renewable energy developments are just a few of the current issues that IPLC works to defend on behalf of ranchers.
Educating.
IPLC and PLC work to educate the public and legislators about the ecological benefits of grazing, as well as how ranchers invest their time and energy into stewarding public land. This includes controlling invasive species, preserving clean water, maintaining fire breaks, and much more.
Not only does IPLC advocate for ranchers, but they also have programs to support the work that they do. At the national level, PLC offers grants for industry partners, such as academic professionals, who are able to answer questions about
key issues surrounding natural resources and develop materials to support public lands grazing.
IPLC Contributions
If you hold a grazing permit on public lands, you may have received a Public Lands Usage (green) slip in the mail asking for a contribution toward IPLC. While this is voluntary, your contribution makes a significant difference in fighting key issues related to grazing such as wildfire prevention and recovery, endangered species issues, land management challenges, and more.
